Visual essays is a lecture series about graphic design. This lecture series invites current graphic designers to talk about a topic of their work to art students. These are three posters that were designed to advertise for the events while focusing on using type as image.

I designed these posters in a way that looks fun and inviting by chosing vibrant colors and interesting text to draw people towards them. Once the viewer is drawn to the poster, they will see all of the smaller details that will make them want to explore further. These little details keep the viewer’s attention while the important information is emphasized so that they will be more inclined to read about the events. The excitement of these posters will make the viewers feel as though they have to go.

By using primary and secondary colors, basic shapes and text-booky layouts, the posters feel school like. This helps the viewer grasp that this is a learning event before even reading the text. I kept similrities between the posters by using some of the same colors, fonts and text layouts to give them the same style. This makes them more recognizable as a series so that viewers won’t confuse them as different events.
